Types of Sjogren’s Syndrome: Primary and Secondary
Primary:
Sjogren’s syndrome can occur as a primary disease of exocrine gland dysfunction.
Secondary:
Secondary Sjogren’s syndrome can co-occur with
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Lupus
- Scleroderma
- Fibromyalgia
These primary and secondary types occur with similar frequency, but the sicca complex seems to cause more severe symptoms in the primary form.
